Hello to one and all at the Serial Squadron. My name is Bradley Mauro and I live in Tarzana, California, a mere few blocks from Edgar Rice Burroughs' office - and his estate, until some vile developers tore it down some time around 2006. One could say I've been a serial fan since 1977 when I first saw Star Wars, but was too young at the time to have been aware of the rich pulp and cinematic history from which Lucas was drawing. Fortunately, as serials began to be released on VHS and DVD, shedding some light on the not-too-distant past, I grew to fully appreciate what had gone before.

My move to Tarzana was deliberately based on the association with Burroughs' work, but when I first moved to Hollywood, I lived on a street with even more resonance to serial fans... although it was not until I read William Witney's "In a Door, Into a Fight, Out a Door, Into a Chase" a couple of years ago that I realized that in the mid to late 1980's, I was living a block from where Mascot Pictures had been located on Santa Monica Blvd.

I work in the movie industry as an animatic artist and supervisor, and as a 2nd Unit Director. I am currently developing a number of projects I hope to direct which are heavily influenced by serial structure. Maybe I'll have the privilege to report getting a green light for one of them some day in this very forum. Anyway, as we welcome in this new year, may I wish you all an exciting and prosperous 2009.
