And I have yet to see ZFL and SPY SMASHER. |

I forgot to include ADVENTURES OF CAPTAIN MARVEL, but that would have made my top ten, eleven.

Jerry, you absolutely have to check out ZORRO'S FIGHTING LEGION and SPY SMASHER. You will love them, and put them in your top five.

Re: Best Republic serials | #51

I've stayed away from the studio specific lists because I've only watched 40 some serials with a fairly even mix amoung the studios. But what the heck I think I can come up with 10 favorite Republics. Not necessarily in order.
Spy Smasher King of the Royal Mounted Undersea Kingdom The Tiger Woman Daredevils of the West (only having 4 chapters is no reason to exclude it) Jungle Girl Radar Men from the Moon Perils of Nyoka S.O.S. Coast Guard The Adventures of Red Ryder Edited after viewing more serials which definitely belong on the list. |

I really like these new threads you devised, Black Tiger, because we're comparing apples to apples and oranges to oranges. Of course, we all have more than 10 favorite Republics, but that's what makes this a good game.

Re: Best Republic serials | #53

Okay, the others were easy. Any Republic list that stops at 10 is guaranteed to slight some great serials. But here goes:
1. Drums of Fu Manchu 2. Jungle Girl 3. Perils of Nyoka 4. Mysterious Dr. Satan 5. Undersea Kingdom 6. Darkest Africa 7. Hawk of the Wilderness 8. Daredevils of the Red Circle 9. King of the Texas Rangers 10. some conglomorate serial in which Billy Batson, Lance Reardon, Rex Bennett and the Tiger Woman team up with Spy Smasher to defeat Sombra, Mephisto, the Crimson Ghost and The Scarab, who are all secretly working for the Nazis. |

Re: Best Republic serials | #54

If I have to really choose number 10 or be fed to the orangopoids, I think it'll have to be King of the Royal Mounted.

PS, it's nice to see the growing appreciation for King of the Texas Rangers, a serial which did not poll in most folks' top ten lists five years ago.

Re: Best Republic serials | #56

It's hard to stop at 10. Each time I see one I want to add it to the list. Well, with the possible exception of say Darkest Africa or Robinson Cruso of Clipper Island. Also time keeps shuffling the list. Nevertheless, here goes.
1) Nyoka and the Tigermen 2) Jungle Girl 3) Mysterious Dr. Satan 4) Masked Marvel 5) Spy Smasher 6) Drums of Fu Manchu 7) Zorro's Fighting Legion 9) King of the Texas Rangers 10) Daredevils of the Red Circle |

Cap,
I notice that all your lists have a smiley face for the number eight. Is there some significance in this that I don't recognize? The Ol' Sarge |

Now that I've posted my least favorite Republics I'll focus on something more positive.
My list in chronological order: Mysterious Dr. Satan Adventures Of Captain Marvel Jungle Girl King Of The Texas Rangers Perils Of Nyoka Spy Smasher Captain America The Tiger Woman Zorro's Black Whip DaughterOf Don Q One thing some of these have in common is a strong female character who can hold her own in the action scenes instead of just getting in the way. |

Re: Best Republic serials | #60

I rate Captain Marvel as the best Republic serial, closely followed by Drums of Fu Manchu. The other greats, in my book, include Daredevils of the Red Circle, Perils of Nyoka, Spy Smasher, Zorro's Fighting Legion, and yes, even S.O.S. Coast Guard.
